As a means to help drive participation for Fair Trade USA’s Seafood Switch campaign – a grassroots effort encouraging shoppers to select responsibly sourced seafood – and to celebrate World Oceans Day on 8 June, Maine, U.S.A.-based supplier Bristol Seafood is releasing a collection of recipes featuring Fair Trade-certified ingredients.

Bristol, which became the first company in 2017 to provide a domestically-harvested Fair Trade seafood product with its North Atlantic Sea Scallops, hopes to further enhance sustainability within the fishing industry by committing to Fair Trade’s Seafood Switch campaign.

“For us, finding the highest-quality product comes hand-in-hand with social responsibility,” said Peter Handy, President and CEO of Bristol Seafood, “It is equally as important to ensure that all of our products are uncompromised and based on sustainable practices. The Fair Trade certification is a powerful, third-party validation of our beliefs, and we hope these recipes encourage everyone to make the seafood switch on World Oceans Day and beyond.”

The six recipes released by the company are created by Portland,Maine-based chef Brett Cary, and are “diverse in taste and style,” incorporating “Fair Trade Certified seafood available at retailers across the United States, including Bristol’s North Atlantic Sea Scallop,” Bristol said. Moreover, each recipe serves to “capture the essence of summer with a heart-healthy design and vary in degree of difficulty,” the company explained, and promotes the values that are important to the Fair Trade mission.

“Fishermen’s wellbeing is critical to addressing environmental concerns in the seafood industry,” said Julie Kuchepatov, Director of Seafood at Fair Trade USA. “Thanks to Fair Trade, shoppers can support both the oceans and the people who fish them every time they buy seafood.”
