Clearwater rolls out new surfclam sushi product in advance of Seafood Expo Global
Clearwater Seafoods has introduced its newest product customized for the European market– 100 percent natural and wild-caught Arctic surfclams, presented in pre-cut and portioned sushi-ready slices.
The new product will debut on display in the coming weeks during the Seafood Expo Global / Seafood Processing Global event taking place in Brussels, Belgium from 25 to 27 April. The Artic surfclams offering, which is ready-to-use and created for convenience, caters to the current needs and demands of Europe’s sushi restaurant sector.
“We’re introducing Clearwater Frozen Arctic Surfclam Sushi-Ready Slices to meet the growing demand from today’s sushi restaurant operators across Europe,” said Michael Hollis, Clearwater’s vice president Sales for Europe, Middle East and Africa, in a news release. “This new and innovative product format offers convenience, simple preparation and easy storage, in addition to adding visual appeal to any sushi or sashimi dish with its vibrant red coloring.”
Hailing from the cold waters of Canada’s East Coast, the Arctic surfclams featured in Clearwater’s new offering are harvested from a Marine Stewardship Council (MSC)-certified fishery and are blanched and individually quick frozen (IQF) onboard Clearwater’s state-of-the-art factory vessels within an hour of being acquired. Moreover, each clam undergoes a rigorous processing routine, wherein they are “sorted, size graded and rigorously quality control tested before being sliced in half and packed,” according to Clearwater.
Arctic surfclams are popular in Japan and China, where they are referred to as "hokkigai" and "bei gei bei," respectively.
“They’re prized globally for their sweet taste, unique texture and vibrant red tongues,” the company said.
“Clearwater’s Arctic Surfclams are pre-blanched, making them ready-to-consume once thawed. Simply place a sushi-ready slice on rice or serve on its own sashimi style for the ultimate in convenience. This new surfclam format, in addition to Clearwater’s existing one kilogram IQF offering, provides two Arctic surfclam product options for today’s foodservice operators,” Clearwater said.
