First Icelandic MSC-labeled products hit shelves

Icelandic company Akraborg has introduced Marine Stewardship Council-labeled canned cod liver to the Icelandic retail market.

The product has been launched under the Icelandic Ora brand.

“MSC certification was a big step for us towards our international markets were demand for MSC certified products has increased steadily in the last few years,” said Rolf Hakon Arnarson, Akraborg general manager. “WE are very happy to be able to extend our production of MSC certified products and offer them in the Icelandic market in cooperation with the good people at Ora.”

“Akraborg is the pioneer in Iceland producing MSC labeled canned cod liver for markets across the globe. It is also the first Icelandic company to produce MSC labeled consumer pack products for overseas markets,” said Gisli Gislason, MSC senior fisheries outreach manager. “I am delighted that it is the now the first company to produce MSC labelled products specifically for the local market in Iceland. I congratulate Akraborg and Ora with this great accomplishment and will closely follow further developments.”
