HealthSea Foods releasing new value-added seafood products

HealthSea Foods, the subsidiary of food distribution company North American Fine Foods, will soon release several value-added seafood products made with health-conscious ingredients such as chia, yucca, plant, seeds and vegetables.

The Nova Scotia, Canada-based company said in a press release it had invested eight years of research and development into creating products including “Omega Burgers,” a pizza wrap, seafood dumplings and a “Morning Glory Sandwich Loaf,” as well as several sauces and spreads.

“With the increase in beef, pork and poultry prices, these alternative health ingredients can mean less meat and resources to offset the increasing cost,” spokesperson Jacqueline Leon said. “In addition, the flavor of these products will be adjusted according to the preferences of different cultures.”

The foods being created by HealthSea are focused are low-fat, gluten-free, MSG free, high in protein, contain no byproducts and are rich in Omega-3 fatty acids, according to the release.
The products are also designed to double the value of seafood resources in Nova Scotia through better utilization of the local catch, Leon said.
