High Liner partners with NY school district

High Liner Foods on Thursday announced it partnered with Frontier Central School District in Hamburg, N.Y. as part of a new promotion to raise awareness about sustainable and healthy seafood choices.

An event at Frontier Central High School on 13 November kicked off “The Sa-Weetest Promotion,” which gives K-12 school foodservice directors the opportunity to create in-school promotions that introduce students to High Liner’s Sa-Weet! Potato Crusted Seafood™ line of products.

High Liner’s Chef Marco Suarez demonstrated to students how to fillet a fish, along with various cooking methods. Students were served products from High Liner’s Sa-Weet! Potato Crusted Seafood line, which meets the Alliance for a Healthier Generation Guidelines and are aligned with the USDA whole grain guidelines for the 2014 school year.

In addition, the products are made from Marine Stewardship Council-certified Alaska pollock.

“This is a great opportunity to educate our students that healthy and sustainable food can also be delicious. I’m sure that seeing a demonstration of fish being prepared from scratch will make an impression on many of them,” said Sue Birmingham, foodservice director for Frontier Central Schools.

“Students today are more sophisticated when it comes to trying different cuisines. The Sa-Weetest Promotion is about bringing culinary-inspired recipes to school districts that meet the USDA’s healthier guidelines without sacrificing all-important flavor,” said Jim LaBelle, High Liner foodservice marketing VP.

“MSC fully supports all efforts to bring once-frozen, certified sustainable seafood to school districts. This promotion led by High Liner Foods will go a long way toward making students aware of global environmental issues and how we can all be more responsible in our food purchases,” said Kerry Coughlin, MSC Americas region director.

Frontier Central High School is the first school to participate in the Sa-Weetest Promotion.
