Irish seafood retailer recognized

The Irish Sea Fisheries Board, or Bord Iascaigh Mhara (BIM), recently named Scally’s SuperValu in Clonakilty, Co. Cork, the inaugural BIM Seafood Circle Supermarket Seafood Counter of the Year.

The new awarded is presented to seafood retailers that exceed the high standards set by the Seafood Circle, an initiative developed by BIM to recognize companies that consistently offer top-quality seafood. The initiative now has 175 members nationwide — 98 hospitality outlets, 41 specialty seafood outlets and 36 supermarkets.

“Through our membership of the Seafood Circle, we have not only received recognition for our hard work, but we have benefited from advice along the way to ensure we are changing with the times and delivering innovative solutions and the highest standards at our seafood counter,” said Eugene Scally, owner and manager of Scally’s SuperValu. “Seafood has become a key focus of our business.”

“The Seafood Circle brand not only provides the public with a recognizable mark to identify the best seafood establishments nationwide, but it works closely with establishments to raise the standards in quality seafood and service, thereby raising the bar and ensuring Ireland retains its reputation for quality seafood,” added BIM CEO Jason Whooley.
