JCS Fish brand wins Q award

The BigFish retail brand developed by Grimsby, U.K.-headquartered, family-owned company JCS Fish has picked up a Quality Food & Drink Award for its new BigFish Signature Smoked Sea Trout, winning the Best Smoked Fish category.

The “Q Awards” have celebrated U.K.-made quality food and drink for 40 years, with this year’s event held in London.

“This is a particularly big win for us as a small family firm as it proves that our products can compete on the national stage. Our whole Grimsby team has put so much work into our new smokehouse and we think Signature is the best smoked fish we’ve ever produced,” JCS Co-founder Louise Coulbeck said. “So it’s really brilliant that the national Q Award judges thought the same!”

The runners-up in the category were Alfred Enderby’s Traditional Smoked Haddock and Asda Smoked Salmon.

Earlier this year, the BigFish brand picked up a total of five stars at the Great Taste Awards 2019, run by the Guild of Fine Food.

Its products are available at independent retailers around the United Kingdom as well as on the BigFish website.

JCS Fish has an annual turnover of around GBP 7 million (USD 9 million, EUR 8.2 million) and employs 45 people.

For the year to 31 August 2019, the company recorded a sales volume growth of 63 percent.
