Long John Silver’s Launches Low-Cal Menu

Long John Silver’s is targeting calorie-counting diners with a new menu it introduced today called Freshside Grille Smart Choices.

The three items each contain less than 350 calories and 7 grams of fat. They are: Grilled Pacific Salmon with red bell pepper sauce, black pepper, garlic and olive oil; Grilled Tilapia with garlic and herb sauce; and Shrimp Scampi in a garlic butter sauce. Each item is served with seasoned rice and a steamed vegetable medley comprising green beans, orange and yellow carrots.

The items cost $4.99 each. On 24 February — which Long John Silver’s has declared “Skinny Tuesday,” a play on the Mardi Gras holiday Fat Tuesday — the items are available for just $3.50 each.

“Americans want great deals and smart solutions for eating better but still want to satisfy their appetites,” said Ben Butler, president of Long John Silver’s. “We’re proud to offer the new 350-calorie plates, which truly lower your calorie count without compromising taste. Now we’re inviting everyone to try this new low-calorie indulgence on February 24 and make their day a tasty, guilt-free Skinny Tuesday. We’ll satisfy your wallet and your palate.”

Long John Silver’s is the United States’ largest quick-service seafood chain. It is owned by Yum! Brands of Louisville, Ky., the world’s largest restaurant company in terms of number of units, with nearly 36,000 in more than 110 countries and territories. In addition to Long John Silver’s, Yum operates KFC, Taco Bell, Pizza Hut and A&W.
