M&J Seafood Stops Bluefin Sales

M&J Seafood of the United Kingdom yesterday announced that it stopped supplying bluefin tuna to the foodservice market on Monday.

"This is something we expect other suppliers and retailers to follow. We had already banned Mediterranean bluefin tuna, but it was important that all bluefin tuna is removed from our extensive seafood list," says Mike Berthet, M&S fish and seafood director. "We're looking at saying goodbye to bluefin tuna as a living species unless action is taken to protect the planet's remaining stock."

M&J will continue to supply other varieties of tuna, including yellowfin and albacore.

M&J Seafood is a member of Europe's largest foodservice business, the Brakes Group.
