New study reveals Brits are traditionalists when it comes to eating fish and chips

U.K. consumers prefer traditional favorites when plating up their fish and chips, according to the results of a new survey and online competition conducted by Young’s Seafood.

Participants were asked to create their ideal fish supper by choosing which species they prefer, their favorite accompaniments and what kind of sauce they like to add to the plate. The nation’s preferred combination was cod with mushy peas, tartare sauce and bread and butter on the side.

Cod was by far the No. 1 species with 50 percent of the poll, followed by haddock with 27 percent, while tartare narrowly edged past ketchup as the nation’s sauce of choice.

Young Seafood conducted the online competition as part of the celebrations for its Chip Shop range, which turned 30 this year.
