Saucy Fish busts into Canadian market

The Saucy Fish Co. continues its expansion into Canada, adding a number of new ready-to-eat meals to its growing catalogue of products now available at Loblaws retail locations around the country.

Canadian customers can find Saucy Fish products, which typically serve two, within the Loblaws’ fresh seafood case. The full range of items now available from the U.K.-based brand across the 349 Loblaws storefronts in Canada include:

  • Sticky Maple Sauce Sensational with Smoked and Roasted Atlantic Salmon fillets
  • Tomato and Chilli Chutney Tremendous with Roasted Sweet Chilli Atlantic Salmon fillets
  • Sicilian Lemon & Dill Mayo Magnificent with Roasted Lemon and Herb Atlantic Salmon
  • Lemon Butter Sauce Sensational with Herb Crusted Atlantic Salmon
  • Chili, Lime and Ginger Dressing Superb with Atlantic Salmon
  • Aged Cheddar and Chive Sauce Smashing with Smoked Haddock
  • Salsa Verde Tremendous with Tilapia

The brand has taken great efforts to tailor its Canadian roll-out to appeal to the country’s unique customer base.

“Following our stateside expansion over the last year, we’re exceptionally pleased to be launching in Canada with a brand new frozen range,” said Paul Macis, International and Business Development Manager at The Saucy Fish Co. UK, in a news release. “We know different international markets buy and consume seafood in different ways. We feel extremely confident that our inspirational fish and sauce combinations will brighten up the Canadian shoppers’ basket, and lighten the load on whoever’s cooking the mid-week meal. We’re also delighted to have Loblaws as our retail partner. They are the perfect retail partner for our brand and they seem really committed to supporting our launch.”

The Canadian customer is one that is “reasonably confident when it comes to cooking with fish,” Saucy Fish explained to SeafoodSource, which has allowed for the brand to provide a range that features a variety of species. Among those species is tilapia, a fish frequently consumed in Canada, and haddock, smoked and amplified with a British twist “to satisfy the more experimental appetites,” said the brand.

For the consumer looking for an at-home feel or a home-from-home comforting flavor profile, there is the ready-to-eat Sticky Maple Sauce with Smoked and Roasted Atlantic Salmon Fillets – “our Canadian crowd-pleaser and flavor combination we know suits the Canadian shopper's palate,” said Saucy Fish.

As far as business relations are concerned, Loblaws, a prominent retailer in Canada, has been an ideal retail partner for the Saucy brand, it explained.

“Saucy looks for a fully committed retail partner, open to pushing the boundaries of the fish sector. In the U.K., Saucy Fish, was the first ever seafood brand to gain CoolBrand status and it's this challenge to convention that we look to replicate with our retail partners. Why not take over the freezer aisles, and remain in the chilled aisles. Loblaws understands the Saucy Fish brand. The vision for Saucy Fish is simple, to get more people to enjoy more fish, more often. Loblaws is a well-placed retailer to support and help achieve our international vision,” said Saucy Fish representatives.
