Scott & Jon’s rolling out frozen salmon bowls for US retail segment

Scott & Jon’s, which offers an extensive line of frozen shrimp bowls in U.S. grocery chains, is adding a salmon bowl line to its offerings.

The first two flavors – Mediterranean herb and honey sesame – will be available in early 2024 at retailers nationwide, including Target, Ahold, Harris Teeter, Giant Eagle, and Southeastern Grocers.

"We're excited to unveil our new salmon bowls to address a growing need in the market," Scott & Jon’s Co-Founder Scott Demers said in a press release. "We have received countless requests from retailers and our consumers for other seafood bowls, and salmon seems to be the most requested,” he told SeafoodSource.

Salmon is the fastest-growing seafood category in the U.S. and the second most popular seafood species behind shrimp, according to Demers.

The company sources its salmon from a “reputable” Norwegian supplier that is certified by the Aquaculture Stewardship Council and Marine Stewardship Council and has FSSC 22000 certification, “reflecting our dedication to quality and stringent food safety standards," Demers said.

The Auburn, Maine, U.S.A.-based company is committed to ensuring the salmon bowls are “affordable for everyday consumption, making it accessible to a broad range of consumers without compromising on excellence,” Demers said. The suggested retail price on the bowls is between USD 4.99 (EUR 4.57) and USD 6.49 (EUR 5.93).

The company is also increasing the portion size of its meals by 20 percent and updating its packaging.

"Our consumers told us loud and clear that they want healthy seafood options, bigger portions, and better value," Demers said in a press release. "With this increase in portion sizes, we're addressing these needs, providing our consumers with the satisfaction they want without increasing their cost.”

The company’s new packaging design “reflects the brand's commitment to quality seafood and innovation,” with a more vibrant and eye-catching appearance that better showcases ingredients and flavors, it stated.

Scott & Jon’s began operating in 2011 and expanded nationally after a USD 1.3 million (EUR 1.2 million) investment from Arbel Growth Partners in 2018. The supplier specializes in frozen meals featuring Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP)-certified shrimp.
