Slapfish opens new US location, with restaurants in the UK and South Korea on the way

Slapfish, the California, U.S.A.-based "modern seafood shack" franchise, has opened a new location in Utah, getting one step closer to its overarching goal of operating 75 locations by 2020.

The new Sandy, Utah location is the ninth Slapfish fast-casual site to open in the United States, and is owned and operated by Salt Lake City restaurant group MeisterBrands, LLC. MeisterBrands entrepreneurs Steve Hawes and Darryl Neider signed a multi-unit deal with Slapfish in late 2016, and now run both the new Slapfish Sandy, which officially opens on 25 August, as well as another Slapfish storefront out of Lehi.

“Sandy residents will soon discover that Slapfish is the answer to all their crave-worthy seafood wishes,” Slapfish CEO and Founder Andrew Gruel said. “With our menu of seasonally-rotating, gourmet dishes in a relaxed setting, guests experience the quality of fine dining with the cost and convenience of faster food. Also setting us apart is the fact that we only serve the freshest fish and shellfish sourced from responsible suppliers of seafood.”

“We couldn’t be more excited for our newest opening in Salt Lake County,” added Darryl Neider, owner and principal of MeisterBrands. “Slapfish offers a completely unique dining experience – one that Salt Lake City residents already love – and we are thrilled to have the opportunity to spearhead its growth in partnership with Chef Gruel.”

Slapfish Sandy’s location speaks to the growing metropolitan, gourmet-seeking population expanding out from Utah’s largest hubs.

“Similar to Lehi, the greater Salt Lake area has seen tremendous growth in the office space sector, as well as with tech and software startups, increasing the demand for quality, convenient and unique offerings such as Slapfish in the area,” according to Slapfish.

A grand opening event will be held for Slapfish Sandy from 25 to 26 August, with free lobster rolls handed out to the first 100 customers on Friday, and free lobster taquitos given to the first 100 consumers on Saturday.

Slapfish is looking to open eight locations across Utah and at least 60 throughout the Intermountain West region and Texas over the next 10 years. Plans to open locations in South Korea and the United Kingdom are on track for 2017, the company said.
