StarKist makes first foray outside of seafood with new chicken-based product

For the first time in the company’s history, StarKist is venturing outside of the realm of seafood with a new line of chicken-based products.

The company announced a new line of “Chicken Creations pouches,” which consist of small pouches featuring flavored white-meat chicken with a price-point of USD 1.75 (EUR 1.45) per unit. The new product is available in four flavors, and comes ready-to-eat.

“After 100 years in the tuna business, we proudly announce that StarKist is now a diversified healthy food company,” said Andy Mecs, vice president of marketing and innovation for StarKist in a release announcing the new product. “It is our goal to provide convenient, healthy options that satisfy the palates and nutritional needs for all Americans.  Chicken Creations is a natural extension to our highly successful Tuna and Salmon Creations as we already have the pouch expertise and consumer trust in our high quality flavored protein products.”

The chicken is sourced from American farms, raised cage and hormone free, according to the company.

“As protein snacking is on the rise, StarKist Chicken Creations pouches ensure that consumers are satisfied with great taste, while staying fueled with the protein they need,” wrote StarKist. “This exciting meal solution maintains a convenient, tear-open and no-drain design, a necessity for those always on the move.”

The four flavors include Buffalo Style, Ginger Soy, Zesty Lemon Pepper, and Chicken Salad. The pouches will be found next to the shelf-stable meat section at retailers nationwide this summer.
