Sysco reveals its top 2019 seafood suppliers

Global foodservice distribution company Sysco Corporation announced on 8 November the honorees for its annual Supplier Excellence Awards, a program that recognizes the enterprise’s leading business partners in seafood and other food industries.

Recipients of the 2019 awards were selected by Sysco based on sales growth, leadership, innovation, operational excellence, and other key business performance criteria, the distributor said.

“Sysco has a long-standing tradition of recognizing our top suppliers for their commitment to helping us deliver great products to our customers with exceptional service,” explained Brian Todd, Sysco’s senior vice president of merchandising and marketing, regarding the selection process. “We keep the customer at the center of everything we do and work hard with our supplier partners to improve the overall customer experience.”

Devi Seafoods, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Devi Seafoods Limited, India, was named once again as Sysco’s top seafood supplier. The Houston, Texas-based company received the highest recognition – a Gold Supplier Award – in the seafood category for 2019, marking the fifth time that the supplier has been named by Sysco as an exemplary business partner. In 2018 and 2016, Devi Seafoods also earned Gold Supplier Awards, while in 2017, it earned a Silver Award distinction. Back in 2014, it was the first seafood business to receive Sysco’s “Supplier of the Year” recognition.

Sysco selected Georgia’s King & Prince Seafood as its Silver Supplier Award recipient for the seafood category for 2019, as it had done back in 2018. Meanwhile, Bronze-level status was bestowed by the distribution giant on several other seafood operations including Arista Industries, Inc., Eastern Fisheries, Inc., F.W. Bryce, Inc., Tampa Maid Foods, LLC, and PanaPesca USA.

A specialty honor, the Silver Heritage Award for Diversity, was given to Munhall, Pennsylvania-based The Fishin’ Company, which is one of the largest tilapia importers in the United States.

Sysco gave McCormick US Branded Flavor Solutions its top prize, Supplier of the Year, for exhibiting “the highest level of performance in areas such as sales growth, innovation, service level, and overall support of Sysco and its customers,” it said. Broker of the Year was awarded to the CORE Group, which won the distinction in 2018, too.
