The Saucy Fish Co. surprises seafood diners with mini-chef takeover

The Saucy Fish Co. hosted a one-day only “School of Fish” pop-up event that included a group of chefs ages 6 through 8 preparing, cooking and serving a special fish menu during lunch hour at a London eatery in Soho.

The event was designed to encourage those of all ages to meet their recommended portions of two servings of fish per week, while eradicating the fear of cooking fish at home.

Recent UK food consumption research showed that on average, UK adults consume less than half the weekly recommended amount of fish. Government recommendation is two portions per week.

The pop-up event served more than free meals to dinners. “We know that some people are intimidated by the idea of cooking fish at home, so we want to show just how simple it can be,” said Saucy Fish Co. chef Paul. “Our School of Fish pop up proves it’s child’s play to cook fish so mums and dads should look to their kids to inspire them to eat fish more often.”

“I like cooking at home with my mum and big brother but haven’t cooked fish before,” said Emily Grundstrom, six-years old from West Sussex, who took part in the School of Fish on the day as a mini chef. “It was really fun and easy. Before today fish wasn’t my favorite food, but I’m going to try it more now and I think I can even teach my mum to cook it — who normally burns croissants in the oven.”
