Verlasso launching new meal kits with Peapod in January 2020

Farmed salmon supplier Verlasso is partnering with online grocer Peapod to launch a new line of meal kits in January 2020.

The meal kits, available to Chicago-area Peapod customers, will feature a series of three original recipes “designed to pair Verlasso’s sustainable salmon with other quality ingredients that support key functional nutrition goals for heart health, mental health, and overall physical wellness,” Verlasso said in a press release.

Verlasso is launching the meal kits “to give home cooks the opportunity to enjoy Verlasso in a more convenient and healthy way with a variety of delicious recipes developed by a professional chef,” Victoria Parr, director of marketing for Verlasso, told SeafoodSource. “It's taken a lot of creative energy and collaboration with our partners to bring this to life. We're really happy with the result and are looking forward to seeing them in retail in January.”

Verlasso will add more meal kit recipes in phases.

“We’ll be exploring the opportunity to develop this program further after launch and will have more announcements to make in 2020 about different value-added products from Verlasso,” Parr said.

The kits are focused on taste, ease-of-use, responsible sourcing, and overall wellness, with each recipe designed to contribute to maintaining a well-rounded diet of nutrients, including the essential omega-3s found in salmon, Verlasso said.

The recipes were developed by Chicago chef Charles Webb.

“Fish is a protein that is super versatile and easy to cook with. I designed these recipes to bring salmon into the home kitchen in an approachable way,” Webb said in the press release.

“The partnership with Verlasso was seamless for us because, at Peapod, we are always looking to provide our customers with fresh and sustainable products,” said Spencer Baird, senior vice president of merchandising at Peapod. “Adding this line of meal kits into our growing collection is another way we work to simplify menu planning and meal time.”
