Waitrose adds smoked salmon to its Loch Fyne offering

Scottish seafood company Loch Fyne Oysters Ltd. has extended its supply deal with U.K. retailer Waitrose to include its traditional hand-sliced Bradan Orach smoked salmon product.

The 120-gram salmon product adds to a Loch Fyne offering that already includes oysters and mussels. Lock Fyne products will now be stocked in almost 130 Waitrose stores nationwide.

“We’re very proud to expand upon our existing partnership with Waitrose, which follows strong sales results since introducing our world-renowned seafood to the retailer in 2018,” Loch Fyne Managing Director Cameron Brown said. “The craft of preparing and hand-slicing this exquisite cut of fish is a real learned skill, which offers future job creation and training opportunities at our rural base in Argyll. We are particularly excited about the new business opportunities we are accessing in export markets with our artisanal products, notably the U.S.”

Meaning “golden salmon” in Gaelic, Bradan Orach is a smoked Scottish salmon that has been produced in the traditional Highland manner in small batches. After being dry cured with salt only, the fish is smoked for longer than usual in traditional kilns red by shavings from retired Scotch whiskey casks. Each fillet is traditionally hand-sliced before being sealed.

Bradan Orach was a winner of the Great Taste Awards 2019 with 1 star, and also the winner of the Fish & Seafood category of the Scotland Food & Drink Excellence Awards 2018.

Located at the head of Loch Fyne in Argyll, Loch Fyne began producing oysters more than 40 years ago. Today, the business is comprised of a smokery, mussel farm, oyster farm and hatchery, deli, and local restaurant and oyster bar.

All of its salmon products are responsibly grown or sourced exclusively from GlobalG.A.P.-certified farms on Loch Fyne and elsewhere in Scotland.
