Doug Santschi was promoted 13 July to president of Salisbury, Mayland, U.S.A.-based seafood processor Handy Seafood, effective immediately, after spending the past year as chief commercial officer (COO).
“This is an exciting opportunity and an honor,” Santschi said in a company release. “Handy Seafood has a rich history, an outstanding team, and a strong reputation for quality and innovation. I look forward to working with our employees, customers, and supplier partners as we continue to grow and deliver value throughout the seafood supply chain.”
The firm said Santschi’s promotion is aimed at helping strengthen organizational capabilities and position the company for the future.
Meanwhile, Handy Seafood CEO Todd Conway will remain in his current position, where he will focus on long-term strategy, key customer and industry relationships, business development opportunities, and corporate direction, the company said.
“Doug has demonstrated exceptional leadership, business judgment, and commitment to our customers and employees,” Conway said in the release. “As our industry continues to evolve, Doug’s experience and strategic perspective make him the right leader to help guide our day-to-day operations and support the continued growth of Handy Seafood. I look forward to working closely with him as we continue building on the strong foundation of our business.”
Prior to joining Handy Seafood in June 2025, Santschi worked at Springdale, Arkansas, U.S.A-based Tyson Foods for over seven years in multiple leadership roles. Prior to Tyson Foods, Santschi worked at AdvancePierre Foods in Cincinnati, Ohio, U.S.A., as vice president of foodservice marketing and strategy. Prior to that, his food industry career began in August 2006 with Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, U.S.A.-based Kraft Heinz as the company's associate director of brand management.
Handy Seafood processes seafood in several countries overseas, mainly focusing on premium crab and value-added seafood products. The company is family-owned and was founded in 1894.
