The Canaveral Port Authority (CPA) Board of Commissioners is continuing to advance development of a new working waterfront and commercial fishing facility at Port Canaveral in the U.S. state of Florida.

“Port Canaveral began as a commercial fishing port in 1953, and our decades-long legacy with this industry continues to this day. This investment reflects our ongoing commitment to support this important resource that delivers vital economic benefits to communities locally and nationally,” Port Canaveral CEO John Murray said in a release.

The port is building a 16-slip commercial fishing dock, 125 feet of dedicated bulkhead space, and an open-air pavilion with fish cleaning stations, office space, and other conveniences to support the local commercial fishing sector. The CPA said the facility will help support on-port processors, who move roughly 4 million pounds of fresh fish annually.

The port is investing USD 5.2 million (EUR 4.6 million) in the project.

On 1 July, the CPA board approved Titusville, Florida-based Rush Construction to complete upland improvements for the new facility. The commercial fishing dock will be constructed by Rush Marine.

The project is currently in the design phase, with construction set to be completed in early 2027.
