Effective 1 July, former Mowi Scotland managing director Alan Sutherland will be joining netting and ropes manufacturer Garware Technical Fibres as its new country manager for Scotland.
Sutherland brings four decades of aquaculture experience to India-based Garware, which produces cage nets, lice shields, and moorings and vertical ropes for aquaculture operators; as well as fishing nets, ropes, and twines for the deep-sea fishing industry.
An interest in innovation and a passion for aquaculture drew Sutherland to Garware, where he will support and expand the reach of the firm’s aquaculture offerings.
“In collaboration with our Scottish partner W&J Knox Ltd, Alan will further support & develop the aquaculture market for our next exciting innovation, which will be unfolding in the very near future,” Garware European Sales Manager Kanwal Malik said. “With this new investment, Garware Technical fibres will continue to focus on providing innovative, application focused solutions, geared to enhancing the value to our customers.”
After getting his start in the industry working with rainbow trout in 1982, Sutherland transitioned to the Atlantic salmon sector in 1997, working predominantly in Scotland and spending four years in Canada and the U.S. With Mowi Scotland, he held various senior roles, including managing director for nine years.
Sutherland said he sees Garware’s “positive approach and strong commitment to product development” as an “excellent opportunity to continue to be involved in and support the business in Scotland.”
In addition to the seafood industry, Garware also caters to the sports, agriculture, and safety nets segments, with its products available for purchase in 76 countries. The company is listed in India and has an approximate turnover of USD 141 million (EUR 118 million).
