Hudson Valley Fisheries, based in Hudson, New York, U.S.A. announced it has chosen Jordan Mazzetta as its CEO.
Hudson Valley Fisheries runs a steelhead recirculating aquaculture system (RAS) facility in Hudson, New York. Company president John Ng, one of the business’s founders, told SeafoodSource the operation – founded in 2014 – was partially a way to diversify his family’s business. The company has since achieved a four-star Best Aquaculture Practices rating.
“Jordan will lead the HVF team in its next phase of growth, including upgrades and improvements to our current facility in Hudson, New York, along with our land acquisition and construction of a new site,” Ng said. “I am excited to see our goals become a reality with Jordan at the helm.”
Mazzetta joins the company with nearly two decades of experience in the seafood industry, having served as an executive vice president of Mazzetta Company for over a decade before leaving the family business to start his own seafood-related venture. Since then he served as the CEO of Atlantic Sustainable Catch – a company formed in October 2021 when ACON Investments simultaneously acquired and merged Northern Wind, Suncoast Seafood, and Raymond O’Neill and Son Fisheries. According to his LinkedIn, Mazzetta left that position in October 2022.
“Hudson Valley Fisheries has a great team that knows how to sustainably raise great-tasting steelhead,” Mazzetta said. “We are in a unique position to expand our service and brand in the Northeast [U.S.].”
Hudson Valley Fisheries told SeafoodSource in 2020 it was planning to reach annual production of between 1,000 and 1,200 metric tons, and delivers steelhead trout to upscale grocers and fine dining restaurants in Boston, New York, Philadelphia, and Washington D.C. The company has also secured contracts to supply fish for Singapore Airlines’ flights from New York to Singapore.
The company’s steelhead trout are sold to customers either fresh head-on gutted, or filleted and small batch cold- and hot-smoked.
Hudson Valley Fisheries General Manager Ed Tribe said that he is “confident” the company will meet its expansion goals under Mazzetta’s leadership.
“We have brought a relatively unknown species to the Northeast and created both a demand and a steadily growing customer base for it in New York City and beyond,” Tribe said.
