Kristiansund, Norway-based Kontali Analyse AS has acquired Seafood TIP B.V., the Utrecht, the Netherlands-headquartered operator of ShrimpTails, which provides analysis of the global shrimp trade.
Kontali is a provider of data an analysis covering the global aquaculture and fisheries industry. In a press release, it said the acquisition would strengthen its position “as the leading global player in systemizing the world of fisheries and aquaculture.”
"We are pleased to have completed the transaction with Seafood TIP, which is an industry player we have had a long-term relation with, both as a client and a cooperative partner. Seafood TIP has a strong foothold and knowledge within the seafood industry and will strengthen Kontali’s position in systemizing the world of fisheries and aquaculture,” Kontali Managing Director Thomas Aas said. “With Seafood TIP onboard, the combined analytical capacity and sector coverage is expanded to all major segments within both finfish and crustaceans. This will strengthen Kontali’s commitment to increase transparency in the sector through insights and intelligence and also expand Kontali’s geographical presence with its offices in Utrecht."
Founded in 2013 with backing from the NGO Solidaridad, Seafood TIP (formerly Seafood Trade Intelligence Portal) offers a member-based platform providing intelligence on trade, production, and market developments of various seafood species. Its core mission is “to increase the level of transparency in the seafood supply chain by combining data analysis and storytelling to stimulate profitability and sustainability within the sector,” according to its website.
“We are very happy with the acquisition of Seafood TIP by Kontali,” Seafood TIP Managing Director Sander Visch said. “Over the past years, we have worked hard in becoming the credible source for seafood market intelligence. By combining data with in-depth analysis and effective storytelling, we have been able to increase the level of transparency within the sector, and ultimately uplifting the seafood industry to become more profitable and sustainable. Through the collaboration of Kontali and Seafood TIP’s expertise and knowledge, we are confident that we can develop our intelligence products further and reach a broader audience worldwide. As we take this next huge step forward, we would like to thank Solidaridad for their years of support and trust in Seafood TIP’s mission. We are positive that our partnership will remain strong in the years to come,” he added.
Solidaridad Europe Director Heske Verburg said Kontali offers Seafood TIP a better avenue to growth than his own organization.
“As an entrepreneurial civil society organization, Solidaridad likes to see businesses taking over our initiatives for sector transformation,” Verburg said. “Because of the immense importance of aquaculture for global food systems, I have no doubts we will continue to work with Seafood TIP in the future to make the aquaculture supply chain more transparent and sustainable.”
