Royal Greenland sets up new German joint venture

Wild-caught seafood supplier Royal Greenland AS has established the new joint-venture company as it seeks to strengthen its production and market reach within the European fresh and refreshed market.

Through the move, the group said that it is also looking to expand its product portfolio into species not currently available within its own value chain.

In setting up Royal Fresh Fish GmbH in Cuxhaven, Germany, Royal Greenland has teamed up with seafood professional Carsten Frydkjær, who has experience in fresh and refreshed seafood production and the respective markets in Europe.

Frydkjær and Royal Greenland will share ownership of the new venture.

Royal Fresh Fish adds to Royal Greenland’s other operations in Cuxhaven, now the group’s central European production hub.

In 2010, it began producing lumpfish roe at the North Sea coastal town, followed in 2013 with the packing of various finished goods. In 2018, it introduced the processing of refreshed raw materials from Greenland, and in 2019, a prawn-packing facility was also established.
