Dawnfresh Seafoods, one of the United Kingdom’s largest processors and producers of fish and seafood, has been placed into administration, with staff at its factories in Arbroath and Uddingston told of the news on Tuesday, 1 March, 2022.
Administrators FRP Advisory secured the sale of the Arbroath, Angus, facility to Lossie Seafoods, a subsidiary of Associated Seafoods Ltd. in a deal that will see all 249 staff transfer to the new owners. However, the Uddingston facility is slated to close, resulting in the loss of approximately 200 jobs.
Founded in 1973 and headquartered in Uddingston, near Glasgow, Dawnfresh was producing around 10,000 metric tons (MT) of seafood a year across 350 product lines, mainly supplied to the retail trade. It was also owner of the brand RR Spink, which has operated from Arbroath since 1715.
Its subsidiary company, Dawnfresh Farming, which manages a number of fish-farming sites across Scotland, is also up for sale.
In September 2021 Dawnfresh Seafoods announced plans to close its Uddingston plant and to expand its site at Arbroath, with the former planned to close in mid-2022.
