Giant Eagle is expanding its meal kit selection with a salmon meal offering, and is working with a new meal kit partner.
The Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania-based grocery chain began working with Ventura, California-based FreshRealm to offer the Cookery Complete meal kit line. The new line will launch in 40 of the retailer’s stores this July, Grocery Dive reported.
“We’re constantly looking for unique offerings to meet the ever-increasing demand our guests have for convenient meal solutions,” Giant Eagle Public Relations Specialist Jannah Jablonowski told SeafoodSource. “We are excited to supplement our meal solution assortment with the unique flavor profiles that FreshRealm brings to the table.”
Jablonowski said the retailer will be introducing the line in select locations over the next few weeks.
Ten different “ready-to-cook” kits will be offered, starting with Carbonara Baked Chicken; Honey-Mustard Glazed Pork Chops; and Blue Cheese Butter Strip Steak with Potatoes, Peppers, and Onions.
It is not clear whether seafood options are included in the first round of meal kits, which will change based on popularity and seasonality, a FreshRealm representative told Grocery Dive.
Giant Eagle already carries an expansive array of fresh meal kits under its own label, called “Great to Go” Market District.
This month, the retailer rolled out a Chicken Piccata kit under the “Great to Go” label and it will launch a Crispy Baked Salmon kit in July.
The kits, which feed two people, range from USD 16.00 (EUR 14.00) to USD 22.00 (EUR 19.00) each. One of the retailer’s current meal kits, Seared Citrus Salmon with Grapefruit Sauce and Asparagus Orzo, retails for USD 19.99 (EUR 17.68).
