Honey Smoked Fish Holdings launches new Liberty Smokehouse brand with Restaurant Depot

Coinciding with the 4 July holiday in the U.S., Colorado-based supplier Honey Smoked Fish Holdings is launching a new brand – Liberty Smokehouse.

The brand “takes smoked salmon to a whole new level,” the company said in a press release, and is being carried by national wholesaler Restaurant Depot for the foodservice sector throughout the Northeast U.S.

"We are convinced that the new Liberty Smokehouse brand will bring smoked salmon to a whole new level of taste experience," Honey Smoked Fish Development Director David Smith said.

The fish featured in Liberty Smokehouse products is cold-smoked on each side using custom-made smokers at its Miami, Florida-based plant. Additionally, Liberty Smokehouse Smoked Salmon is raised on farms with 4-star Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) status, resulting in a high-quality, environmentally sustainable farmed salmon product, according to Honey Smoked Fish.

“Honey Smoked Fish Holdings brings a tradition of state-of-the-art processes to give incomparable quality in the most environmentally sustainable way," the company said.

Its new brand showcases the unique production techniques that define the supplier's portfolio, the company said, and is meant to help buoy the foodservice sector during its difficult times as it copes with the economic fallout from the COVID-19 pandemic.

"We wanted to help create a product that is a celebration of our ability to come through adversity and moving forward," Smith said. "We want this new Liberty Smokehouse brand to tell a story of strength and unity. Every time I fly into New York and I see Lady Liberty in the harbor, it represents freedom and fairness and all of the things that make this country great, so our goal was to work with Restaurant Depot to create a brand that represents that."

Smith said the brand's products are ideal for Restaurant Depot's professional and consumer chef customers.

"Honey Smoked’s attention to detail is designed to provide customers with the assurance that the new Liberty brand is the highest quality environmentally sustainable farmed salmon available to the professional chef. We understand how vital it is to the culinary community to be able to track the sourcing of product," the company said.

"We are justifiably proud of our production techniques, and our team," Smith added. "There is no substitute for experience, skill and passion because for us this is the norm. Our team displays these abilities while focused on the production of the Liberty brand."

Restaurant Depot Head Seafood Buyer Steve Marinelli said the Liberty Smokehouse brand enhances the wholesaler's lineup of fine smoked fish offerings.

"Its a perfect fit as Restaurant Depot offers a full line of fresh and frozen seafood for our foodservice customers. We have everything your restaurant needs, sourced from all over the globe for quality and freshness. We have a huge selection of the finest fresh salmon, live mussels and clams, dayboat scallops, tuna, sword[fish], halibut…the list goes on and on. At Restaurant Depot, you never have to worry about our fresh seafood quality," Marinelli said. Like our jackets say … we’re 'Always Fresh.'"

A cash-and-carry operation, Restaurant Depot does not have minimum order requirements or delivery fees. Locations are open seven days a week, and membership is free and open to businesses, nonprofits, and – due to the COVID-19 pandemic – individual consumers as well, Marinelli confirmed.

A subsidiary of McCarthy Capital, Honey Smoked Fish Holdings processes, packages, and sells branded and private label smoked salmon products across retail, club store, and foodservice channels.
