Morey’s Fine Fish & Seafood, owned by Rich Products, is launching a frozen entree utilzing Marine Stewardship Council-certified Alaskan flounder.
The new Wild Flounder Garlic & Herb — the first flounder item in its portfolio — features Mediterranean flavors: garlic, rosemary, thyme, oregano, parsley and basil marinade, Morey’s Marketing Manager Suzanne Wolke said.
The Plymouth, Minnesota, U.S.A.-based supplier is “capitalizing on the trending Mediterranean-inspired flavors and rising popularity of flounder,” Wolke said.
The new flounder entree can be found in the frozen aisle of select retailers for a suggested price range of between USD 6.97 (EUR 6.86) and USD 11.99 (EUR 11.79) per 8/10 ounce package.
Morey’s heightened its focus on value-added items when it expanded to a 65,000-square-foot facility and moved its corporate office from Golden Valley, Minnesota, to Plymouth, in 2019.
Then, in February 2020, Buffalo, New York. U.S.A.-based Rich Products acquired Morey’s. The supplier, which also frozen seafood brand SeaPak, said the acquisition would help it expand its value-added seafood business and overall product offerings.
“We’ve invested in Morey’s because we see an exciting opportunity to grow our seafood business and take it to even greater heights,” Rich Products Senior Vice President of Consumer Brands Jim Motos said in a press release at the time. “Rich’s is a proud leader in seafood. Adding Morey’s know-how, product portfolio, and passion for high-quality, authentic fish and seafood products to our already strong seafood business puts us in a great position to deliver more for our customers and meet the changing demands of their consumers.”
Since the acquisition, Morey’s “has really delivered a breath of fresh air to our seafood business,” Wolke told SeafoodSource. “We have refreshed the packaging, built out a dynamic and user friendly website, activated a strong digital presence, began a national campaign with several commercial spots, and have launched new products.”
Morey’s carries several other value-added seafood entrees, including wild salmon (in Steakhouse, Lemon Herb, and Seasoned Grill flavors); wild cod in Butter & Herb flavor; and tilapia in Seasoned Grill flavor.
Morey’s is continuously exploring new seafood species and flavors, Wolke said, but declined to provide details on other new products on the way.
