Morey’s expands to new value-added seafood processing facility

To meet growing demand for its processing and distribution business, Morey’s Seafood International is expanding to a 65,000-square-foot facility.

Morey is also planning to move its corporate office – currently located in Golden Valley, Minnesota – to the new facility, which is located in Plymouth, Minnesota. The supplier will continue operating its primary manufacturing facility in Motley, Minnesota.

“Given our tremendous growth over the last several years, we were in need of a larger facility,” said Scott Wickert, vice president of sales, in a press release. “Moving into the Plymouth facility will allow us to exponentially expand our current offerings, while also increasing our broad line of custom processed and packaged seafood products.”

Morey’s processes and distributes a full line of fresh and frozen seafood products, including a growing line of value-added products. Its line of frozen, marinated seafood products sold at club stores and other retailers includes: Sweet Bourbon Atlantic Salmon, Sweet Bourbon Wild Salmon, Steakhouse Tilapia, Butter and Herb Cod, Honey Butter Sole, and many other flavors. It also carries an expansive line of smoked salmon and other fish, as well as imitation crab and surimi.

At SENA 2019, Morey's will be showcasing two new flavors in its smoked portions line: Applewood Chipotle Wild Salmon and Maple Brown Sugar Wild Salmon, along with updated packaging.

The new facility significantly adds space for Morey’s value-added processing in “an optimal food safe environment,” according to the supplier, as well as significantly increasing its processing and storage capabilities. The building also features substantial office and conferencing space, along with room for future expansion.

“As a leader in food safety, we have designed and built the largest, most modern seafood production facility in the Midwest. This will allow us to expand our current offerings and do so in an extremely food safe environment. We will continue to exceed customer expectations while maintaining traceability, food safety, and the ability to respond to customer needs in an efficient manner,” said Mike McFee, vice president of operations at Morey’s.
