Zurich, Switzerland-based Regal Springs tilapia producer announced at the 2023 Seafood Expo Global in Barcelona, Spain, the upcoming launch of two new products.
Its beer batter-coated tilapia and its panko-coated tilapia will soon be made available exclusively in the U.S. market, Regal Springs Head of Marketing and Media Relations Vernon Bradley told SeafoodSource.
Currently, Regal Springs has contracted with a Boston, Massachusetts, U.S.A.-based processor to make the products, but Bradley said the company hopes to eventually shift production to its Honduras-based operations.
Also new for the company is a rebranding, with a new green and gold logo designed to build up the Regal Springs name, Bradley said. However, he said Regal Springs is still interested in working with private labels.
The Regal Springs Group raises premium tilapia in lakes in Indonesia, Honduras, and Mexico. Its fish are weaned without the use of chemicals, growth hormones or antibiotics, and are certified under BRC, the Global Aquaculture Alliance’s Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) program, and the Aquaculture Stewardship Council. The company is owned by the Golden Springs Group, which is also the parent company of Singapore-based feed company Gold Coin Group.
In November 2022, Regal Springs received a USD 14 million (EUR 13.5 million) investment and permission to expand its operations in Mexico, and it became a member of the Blue Food Partnership’s multi-stakeholder Sustainable Aquaculture Working Group in August 2022.
Bradley said demand for Regal Springs’ tilapia is up.
“There’s a growing demand for tilapia. It’s lower in price and more affordable but it’s high-quality fish,” Bradley said.
