SeaPak launches trio of frozen seafood products ahead of Lent

SeaPak is launching a trio of frozen seafood products ahead of the Lenten season, which runs from 17 February through 1 April, 2021.

The St. Simon’s Island, Georgia-based supplier is launching a Coconut Cod entree, along with Lobster & Shrimp Bites and Orange Shrimp appetizers.

Lobster & Shrimp Bites are bite-sized versions of “two of the most popular seafood flavors,” SeaPak said in a statement provided to SeafoodSource. “Featuring oven-crunchy, wild-caught lobster and shrimp with cheese and shallots, these incredible flavors are together for the first time in the freezer aisle.”

Lobster is on nearly 20 percent of menus and is most commonly paired with shrimp on 45 percent of menus, SeaPak said.

SeaPak also added the Orange Shrimp to its lineup because of the popularity of Asian foods and the fact that orange sweet and sour sauce is on more menus than cocktail sauce, the supplier said.

The Orange Shrimp appetizer is SeaPak’s “take on take-out.”

“And by take-out, we mean you take it out of the freezer for a delicious dinner in 15 minutes or less,” SeaPak said. "The oven-crispy popcorn shrimp in a sweet orange sauce pairs perfectly with stir-fried veggies, Asian seasonings, and white rice or noodles.”

SeaPak’s new wild-caught Coconut Cod is hand-breaded with a lightly-seasoned coconut flake coating, SeaPak Director of Marketing Kristen Beadon said in a press release.

“We are so excited to launch this quick and easy, delicious Coconut Cod. It’s sure to be a new family favorite just like our already popular Coconut Shrimp,” Beadon said.

Cod is a good source of protein, and provides a great way for consumers to meet their weekly two to three servings of seafood as recommended by the 2020-2025 Dietary Guidelines for Americans, SeaPak said.

The 7.5-ounce Coconut Cod packages sell for a suggested USD 8.99 (EUR 7.42) each.
