US sushi supplier partners with Walmart

Retail sushi supplier Hissho Sushi is partnering with selected Walmart stores as it launches a new commissary concept.

Charlotte, North Carolina, U.S.A.-based Hissho Sushi, which sells its sushi at 2,000 locations in the U.S., is launching “Hissho on the Go” in Walmart stores in the Charlotte area.

The new commissary concept is designed to deliver “tasty, fresh sushi to foodies across the Charlotte metro area, conveniently found in the grocer’s deli,” Hissho said in a press release.

Specially trained Hissho Sushi chefs use fresh ingredients to hand roll “Hissho on the Go” sushi daily at a single commissary site.

“The rolls will be immediately delivered to partners like Walmart where shoppers can conveniently pick up their favorite rolls while shopping,” Hissho said.

“It’s exciting to see sushi pushing the boundaries of where customers expect to see our rolls…Increasingly we’re forming unique partnerships with markets across the country who see the value of offering a convenient, high-quality and on-the-go meal option that their shoppers crave,” Hissho Sushi Vice President of Business Development Corey Wilde added.

To begin with, shoppers will be able to choose from eight rolls at three different price points: USD 5.00 (EUR 4.51), USD 7.00 (EUR 6.31), and USD 9.00 (EUR 8.11). Options that will be available at Walmart include: Krispy Krab, California, Spicy Red Pepper, and Crunchy Shrimp rolls.

In related news, Hissho Sushi’s offerings are featured in Giant Food Stores’ new Heirloom Market in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

“Hissho is excited for the opportunity to serve our hand-crafted sushi and unveil a new hot appetizer program. These initiatives align with the trends of increasing popularity of Pan-Asian cuisine and retail partners looking to make their stores a destination for prepared foods,” the supplier said in a press release.
