U.K. supermarket chain Sainsbury’s is now stocking a range of pre-packed YO! sushi and Japanese dishes in more than 300 of its stores across the country through the extension of its ready-to-go restaurant product offering.
Sainsbury’s told SeafoodSource that the new YO! grab-and-go range includes six lines, including chicken katsu bites, a poke rice bowl, and a vegan snack pack.
“The range is on offer in ‘Food to Go’ fixtures at the front of stores, offering customers really convenient, high quality sushi to-go,” a spokesperson for the company said. “The demand for enjoying restaurant quality food is continuing to grow and we’re always on the lookout for ways to provide our customers with premium options that tap into a range of different food occasions. Sainsbury’s has introduced a number of well-loved restaurant products into stores to ensure customers can enjoy their favorite dishes and flavors on the go or from the comfort of their own home.”
Last year, the U.K.-based YO! acquired the food-to-go supplier Taiko Foods, which supplies products to Waitrose, Pret a Manger, and Costco. The sushi restaurant chain also merged with U.S. business SnowFox to take advantage of the growing global popularity for Japanese-style food.
In 2017, it bought Canadian business Bento Sushi.
