June through September are peak harvest months for black tiger shrimp (Pennaus monodon) farmers in the Khulna region. Prices are expected to be comparable to 2018 for the larger sizes. Processors and exporters did not purchase much as they awaited the end of Ramadan, but increased their purchasing after Eid al-Fitr.
Even so, the demand from processors for the larger sizes is declining due to the low purchase demand from international buyers. In June, the farmers were fetching higher prices for the smaller counts due to an increase in the domestic demand for shrimp. However, the production over the first months might be disappointing as the survival of the first batches of post-larvae has been extremely disappointing...
