Chilean nylon shrimp
The Chilean nylon shrimp barely makes up 1 percent of the global catch of the coldwater shrimp species, and 95 percent of this species originates from the Chilean coast. They are usually targeted by trawler vessels that traditionally use two-panel trawl nets constructed from gear previously used in purse-seine fisheries.
The Chilean fishing fleet comprises some 450 industrial and almost 13,000 small-scale vessels. In 2017, a total of 4,640 MT was produced, with volumes being mostly delivered to markets in the U.S. The supply has been generally stable throughout the years. The annual TAC has increased since 2010 from 5,000 MT to 5,900 MT in 2018.
