A rollercoaster ride for salmon prices continues to curve downward following record highs in April and May 2022.

Salmon swung up from an average of EUR 6.99 (USD 7.18) per kilo in January 2022 all the way up to EUR 11.72 (USD 12.04) in April 2022, before dropping back to EUR 8.68 (USD 8.92) in July, according to Fish Pool, a marketplace for buying and selling financial salmon contracts.

That downward trend is expected to continue, as Fish Pool predicts a forward price of EUR 7.50 (USD 7.70) for August 2022 and EUR 7.58 (USD 7.79) in September 2022.

As of 27 July, the per-kilo price of fresh and chilled salmon hit EUR 8.19 (USD 8.41), Statistics Norway reported. While that price is down 8.8 percent from the previous week, it remains 22.2 percent higher year-over-year.

Frozen salmon reached a price of EUR 11.16 (USD 11.45) per kilo, up 4.5 percent week-over-week and 80.9 percent year-over-year, Statistics Norway reported.
