Two New England-based seafood suppliers have received U.S. Department of Agriculture contracts for nearly USD 25 million (EUR 23 million) worth of groundfish.
Braintree, Massachusetts, U.S.A.-based Channel Fish Processing and New Bedford, Massachusetts-based Blue Harvest Foods will supply a total of 100,800 cases of frozen Atlantic pollock fillets, ocean perch fillets, and haddock fillets to the U.S. government.
The USDA made the purchase of around USD 24.6 million (EUR 22 million) worth of groundfish as part of its Section 32 program
Blue Harvest won the majority of the contract at USD 16.7 million (EUR 15 million), while Channel Fish will supply around USD 8.3 million (EUR 7.5 million) worth of fish.
However, the USDA said it could not award 1,800 cases of Atlantic pollock and 900 cases of ocean perch “due to Section 32 price consideration.”
Blue Harvest and Channel Fish will make deliveries to several U.S. cities between April and October 2022.
