In its latest purchase of domestic seafood for federal food and nutrition programs, the United States Department of Agriculture agreed to buy nearly USD 25.9 million (EUR 23.6 million) worth of canned pink salmon.
The U.S. suppliers benefitting from the massive salmon purchase include: Ocean Beauty Seafoods (USD 11.7 million, EUR 10.6 million), Peter Pan Seafoods (USD 6.8 million, EUR 6.2 million), Icicle Seafoods (USD 4.8 million, EUR 4.4 million), and Trident Seafoods (USD 2.7 million, EUR 2.5 million).
In June, Icicle and Ocean Beauty snagged a USDA contract for canned pink salmon worth USD 9.1 million (EUR 8.3 million).
However, in the new contract, USDA did not award 182,400 cases (120 trucks worth) of canned pink salmon “due to no bids received or vendor constraints,” the agency said.
The four suppliers will deliver 442,320 cases worth of canned pink salmon between November 2019 and March 2020.
