US government posts contract for major canned pink salmon buy

The United States government is looking to buy 624,700 cases of canned wild pink salmon, not long after awarding Trident Seafoods a large contract for wild sockeye salmon.

The United States Department of Agriculture’s Agriculture Marketing Service is making the large purchase due to an influx of pink salmon. It will be used for federal food assistance programs, and not the National School Lunch Program.

Bids for the canned pink salmon are due by 12 September. Deliveries to several U.S. cities must be made between November 2019 and March 2020.

Earlier this month, the USDA awarded Trident with a contract to supply 324,000 pounds of frozen wild salmon fillets, worth nearly USD 3.1 million (EUR 2.8 million).

In May, Trident was also awarded a USDA contract worth nearly USD 3.5 million (EUR 3.2 million) to supply frozen Alaska Pollock for child nutrition and other domestic nutrition programs.
