Vietnamese pangasius exporter focusing more on Asia

Cuu Long Fish Import-Export Corp. (CLPANGAFISH), an exporter from Vietnam, is now paying more attention to Asian markets as shipments to other regions are facing difficulties, Tony Thuan, the company’s international sales executive, told SeafoodSource during seafood expo Vietfish 2019.

The exports of the company to China, Thailand, Singapore, and the Philippines this year rose about 30 percent on average compared to last year, he said.

CLPANGAFISH plans to gain an export value of total USD 60 million (EUR 54.3 million) this year, up 3.4 percent year-on-year. Around 60 percent of the total export value will come from Asia, followed by 20 percent from Europe and the remainder from other regions.

The rise in exports to other Asia markets has helped offset the decrease in other regions, especially the Middle East and South America. Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) on 30 January last year temporarily suspended imports of fish, crustaceans, and other products of aquatic animal origin from Vietnam due to the presence of two diseases in the Southeast Asian nation.

CLPANGAFISH said it has invested heavily in farming. By the end of last year, it raised its farming areas in Dong Thap and An Giang provinces to 250 hectares, from previous 100 hectares.

The company has a processing plant built in 2006 in Dong Thap with current capacity of 120,000 metric tons per year.
