Asmak Muscat International has doubled its sales since it was founded in 2018 and is planning to open a second processing facility in Dukm, Oman.

The Muscat, Oman-based firm processes horse mackerel, chub mackerel, Indian mackerel, yellowtail scad, sardine, skipjack tuna, croaker, and grey mullet, as well as other species found in local Omani waters at its facility in Jalan. It ships frozen products throughout the Middle East, Africa, and South and Southeast Asia.

Asmak Muscat Commercial Executive Sirajuddin Mohammed said the company has found success focusing on two factors: price and quality.

“All of our fish is caught within two hours of our facility, and they are ready within 12 hours for shipping. So, they retain very high quality when they are frozen, and then we push to offer the most competitive price possible,” Mohammed told SeafoodSource at the 2024 Seafood Expo Global in Barcelona, Spain.

In recent years, Oman’s sovereign wealth fund has implemented a national directive to level up the nation’s seafood industry, including investing in seafood industry infrastructure in Duqm. While Mohammed said Asmak Muscat International hasn’t received any government support, he said his company is bullish on the nation’s future as a larger player in the seafood industry.

In addition to the potential addition of a second plant in Duqm, the company is considering adding to its current cold storage capacity in Jalan to give it more space to grow, according to Mohammed.

“We want to be able to freeze quickly and then do the packing and export exactly according to the customer requirements and packing,” he said. “If [they have] any special requirements, we will do them.”
