Wild salmon harvests in Alaska have reached 261 million fish, up from the previous record of 221.9 million fish in 2005, Alaska Department of Fish and Game biologists said 3 September in a preliminary harvest report.

The harvest of pink salmon meanwhile has reached 210.3 million fish, far exceeding the previous record harvest of 161 million humpies in 2005.

The preliminary total released by state fisheries biologists also shows harvests of 29.3 million sockeye, 17.6 million chum, 3,804,000 silver and 304,000 king salmon.
