Asian Seafood Exposition launched

Diversified Business Communications on Tuesday announced that it will launch the Asian Seafood Exposition in Hong Kong.

The inaugural three-day event will be held 7 to 9 September 2010 in conjunction with Restaurant & Bar Hong Kong, a trade show for the hospitality industry.

Asia Business Events, now Diversified Events Hong Kong, launched Restaurant & Bar Hong Kong in 2002. The event, which attracts more than 8,000 visitors annually, focuses on high quality goods and services for hospitality operators in Hong Kong, Macau and southeastern mainland China.

“The high levels of the Asian market’s international seafood consumption and the ease of trade in and out of Hong Kong provide a clear opportunity to introduce an event with a focus on seafood products,” said Mary Larkin, group VP of Diversified’s global seafood events, as well as SeafoodSource.com and SeaFood Business magazine.

“The Asian Seafood Exposition will fill a gap in the industry, offering fresh seafood, packaged seafood, processed seafood, ready-made products and industry-related services to buyers from Asian retail and foodservice markets,” added Larkin.

Hong Kong has a growing seafood market, importing about USD 2.1 billion (EUR 1.4 billion) worth of seafood in 2008, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Hong Kong is home to more than 7 million people.

Diversified operates the International Boston Seafood Show in Boston, Mass., in March and the European Seafood Exposition in Brussels, Belgium, in April. The Portland, Maine, company also publishes SeafoodSource.com and SeaFood Business.
