Burgos named director of Chile’s Sernapesca

José Miguel Burgos, a veterinarian at the University of Chile, has been named the seventh director of Sernapesca, Chile’s national fisheries and aquaculture regulatory institution.

Burgos, who has served as interim director since July, has more than 15 years of experience in the fisheries and aquaculture sector, having served as director of Sernapesca regions Atacama and Coquimbo.

He was a member of the Chilean delegation of the Office International des Epizooties (OIE) for seven years, plus executive secretary of the National Commission of Aquaculture. He was also head of the National Fisheries Health Department and National Coordinator of Aquaculture in the same institution.

Before becoming director, Burgos served as head of aquaculture in the Undersecretariat of Fisheries and Aquaculture.
