Clean Seas to raise AUD 24m in capital

Clean Seas Tuna Ltd. announced on Tuesday that it will raise nearly AUD 24 million (USD 18.4 million, EUR 13.5 million) — the initial funding the Australia company requires to commercialize its southern bluefin tuna (SBT) farm this year.

“The recent SBT spawning success over 35 days and subsequent production of SBT fingerlings has opened the door for commercial SBT aquaculture production from our next spawning schedule for October/November 2009,” said Hagen Stehr, Clean Seas’ chairman.

“The capital raised will be primarily directed to infrastructure and working capital related to the SBT business,” he added. “This should allow the development of Australia’s first onshore SBT larval rearing facility at Arno Bay. We look forward to the commencement of sea cage grow-out of SBT over the next summer.”

Late last week, Clean Seas named Clifford Ashby as CEO.
