Control Union to begin MSC certification in Asia-Pacific region

Netherlands-based Control Union is now offering Marine Stewardship Council certification in the Asia-Pacific region, following its acquisition earlier this year of MacAlister Elliot and its subsidiary ME Certification.

Recently, ME Certification employees Kat Collinson and Alba Del Rio offered a series of training seminars on MSC certification in Phnom Penh, Cambodia to a team from Control Union so that it can grow its certification services available to fisheries groups in Asia and throughout the Pacific region.

“The Asia-Pacific region hosts a vast array of diverse fisheries and aquaculture sectors and certification is likely to play an increasingly important role in this area over the coming years,” Collinson said.

Control Union’s Seth Wang said the training had improved his team’s understanding of the MSC fishery certification and the requirements for certification, allowing the company to promote and market the program in a time-efficient manner.

“Sustainable seafood has fast become part of our daily life and I believe with the close relationships we now have with MEC, we will be able to offer comprehensive and unparalleled services to all our clients and increase our market presence in Asia in the near future,” Wang said.
