Norwegian soccer superstar Erling Braut Haaland has signed a 2.5-year promotional deal with the Norwegian Seafood Council.

Haaland, a striker for English Premier League club Manchester City, is considered one of the best soccer players in the world. He holds the record for the most goals scored in a single Pemier League season and has been named the UEFA Men’s Player of the Year and the IFFHS World’s Best Player.

“Seafood has been a part of my upbringing and my diet growing up. Norwegian seafood the world’s best still has a natural place in my life,” Haaland said. “The Norwegian Seafood Council does a tremendous job showcasing knowledge and inspiration about tasty, healthy, and sustainable seafood globally and back home in Norway. It was only natural for me to enter this partnership.”

The endorsement deal officially begins 1 April 2024 and will last over two years. Terms of the deal were not released publicly.

“We are thrilled to announce our partnership with world-renowned Norwegian football megastar Erling Braut Haaland,” NSC CEO Christian Chramer said. “Haaland is recognized as one of the best footballers in the world. The fit with Norwegian seafood, which is enjoyed in nearly every part of the world, is, therefore, undoubtable. Being able to join forces as two of Norway’s best exports and strongest brands fills us with immense pride.”

The partnership underscores the shared commitment of both Haaland and Norwegian seafood to strive for greatness within their respective fields in a joint effort toward increasing the consumption of seafood.

At the same time, the NSC announced deals with Norway’s national teams – both women’s and men’s teams – that will see them “showcasing the vast array of seafood treasures from Norway.”

“We are very pleased to have with us the strength of our national teams as well. This is a team effort, and the whole seafood industry stands together with our esteemed athletes in this hugely exciting time moving forward,” Chramer said.

In 2023, Norway surpassed China to become the world’s top seafood exporter in premium categories, sending more than 60 different species of seafood to 153 global markets globally.

Financed by a tariff on the country’s seafood exports, the Tromsø, Norway-headquartered Norwegian Seafood Council is the lead promotional body for Norwegian seafood. It is operated by the Norway Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Fisheries and maintains local representatives in 15 of Norway's most important international markets.
