The European Commission has adopted an investment package for Poland’s fisheries and aquaculture sectors totaling EUR 710.5 million (USD 778.4 million), including EUR 531.2 million (USD 582 million) of EU funds.
As with the operational programs being adopted by other EU member states, these investments are for the period 2014-2020.
Funds will go to three main areas: supporting the Common Fisheries Policy (CFP) objectives to ensure that Poland’s fishing and aquaculture activities are/become more environmentally sustainable; boosting the development of aquaculture; and improving livelihoods in local communities that depend on fishing and aquaculture by creating jobs and alternative sources of income developed by local action groups.
In addition, the program will contribute to improving the competitiveness of the country’s fisheries and aquaculture sectors by fostering marketing and processing. Lastly, funds will support improvements in the management of fisheries control and data collection activities.
