Fishing company sues Havfisk over vessel sale

Norwegian fishing company Hermes is suing Norwegian seafood company Havfisk over the aborted sale of a fishing vessel.

Havfisk, disclosing details of the lawsuit in its 1Q 2015 report, said “Havfisk disputes the claim as groundless.”

Havfisk entered into an agreement with Hermes in December 2013 to sell the vessel Jergul, along with 1.35 quota units for cod and haddock.

“The agreement did not come into effect due to lack of approval by the authorities, which was a prerequisite for the implementation of the agreement,” Havfisk wrote in its report.

Now, according to Havfisk, Hermes is seeking a maximum of NOK 150.3 million (USD 20.4 million, EUR 18 million to compensate for losses and interest.

Havfisk said the amount does not “reflect the reality of an agreement entered into on market terms.”
