Grimsby seafood processor falls into administration

U.K. seafood processor Mariner Foods has gone into administration after just three years of trading.

The Grimsby-based firm ceased trading this month and the factory, which was previously operated by fresh food company Bakkavor, has been closed. Kingsbridge Corporate Solutions has been appointed administrator.

Founded in 2012, Mariner Foods was headed by joint directors Ken Bottomley and Orn Jonsson under a holding company called Sealincs Ltd. It supplied the retail and foodservice sectors with fresh and frozen whitefish, salmon and shellfish.

The Grimsby Telegraph reports that the company’s demise was largely due to a lack of raw materials, which saw production volumes and turnover fall dramatically.

The majority of its staff have found alternative employment and only five redundancies were made at closure.
